I’ve been dressing up my whole life.
My mother was always a crafty woman, and I always had hand-me-down costumes. In grade school, I was Catwoman three Halloweens in a row. I’ll never pass up a chance to dress up.
I made a Harley Quinn costume for Halloween and a Silent Hill Nurse Costume for GenCon one summer, and I’ve been hooked ever since. When I go to cons and meet people who enjoy making costumes (and enjoy talking about doing so), I’m happy . It’s been my zen.
I graduated from Western Illinois University in 2010 with a degree in theatrical directing and received the honor of department scholar. I worked in a costume shop for three years and served as a props and scenic paint charge for one year each. I’ve designed five theatrical sets, directed two shows, directed five shows as assistant, stage managed more than 10 shows and built more than 40 sets. I’ve also designed and built costumes for over 20 shows.
In my spare time (which is a rarity because I keep myself busy all the time) I play DnD and Call of Cthulhu, tour international beer bars and micro brews, and spend time outdoors surrounded by trees.
I have a job in costuming in Vegas at the moment, but I still look forward to one day running my own costuming business and working for myself. I would also love to eventually turn my hobby into a charity for disabled children; think less Silent Hill costumes and more Disney/Batman. And I’m also very old fashion and hope that one day I can have a home filled with kids and bunnies.
My Philosophies of Cosplay:
To me, cosplay means three things: a means of crafting something beautiful with my hands, a venture that celebrates my favorite things, and a beacon that brings my friends and I together. That’s all.
Cosplay what you want, when you want, and how you want. Just please be respectful. I won’t judge you.
“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”
